19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to create a final set.

The opponent rescued four initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
